Spider-man is No.1 this weekend at the box office

The Amazing Spider-Man swings into the No. 1 spot this weekend at the box office with $65 million, amassing an incredible six-day total of $140 million. In IMAX "Spidey" earned $14.3M in North America (307 screens) for the 6 days which is 10%+ of the gross.  Internationally IMAX at almost $10M (137) screens.  The film grossed an estimated $129.1M this weekend, bringing the overseas total to $201.6M and the worldwide cume to $341.2M.

Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D which opened Thursday came in at No. 8 with $7.15 million and $10.25M for Thu.- Sun.. The film opened at number 4 in the UK with $707k from 319 cinemas and $1.4M from 245 locations in Australia and $193k in New Zealand in 44 locs. in its seven day opening weekend.

R-rated comedies Ted and Magic Mike continued to fill theaters bringing in $32.6 million and $15.6 million respectively. 

Here's how the top 5 rounded out: 

1. The Amazing Spider-Man: $65 million (F-S-S)/$140M (Tue. - Sun.)

2. Ted: $32.6 million/$120.2M to date

3. Brave: $20.2 million/$174.5M to date

4. Magic Mike: $15.6 million/$72.8M todate

5. Savages: $16.2 million/Opened Friday

On the international front:
Fox's "Ice Age: Continental Drift" (which opens in N. Am. this Friday) continues to kill it overseas with another $80.6M from 10,964 screens in 48 markets, bringing the international cume to a staggering $198M after just 10 - 12 days of release. 

"Madagascar 3" played in 6,291 cinemas in 43 countries earning $6.4M and bringing its international cume to $257.5M.

How long will Spider-Man reign? The superhero flick will get some family film competition next week with Ice Age: Continental Drift. And then The Dark Knight Rises a week later. So prepare for a box office battle!
